ACUPUNCTURE ARTICLES
- Acupuncture regulation
There has been a good deal of anxiety among health professionals about
the proposed regulation of acupuncture. I therefore set out the main
points as we understand them at present (31 August 2005). The situation
looks considerably better now than it did at the outset in 2004.
- Is Acupuncture
CAM?
Acupuncture is usually thought of as CAM, but I argue that the modern
medical version ought to be incorporated into orthodox treatment.
- Where to place
the needles and for how long?
An article reviewing the possible ways to choose where to place the
needles.
- Acupuncture and the limbic
system
The central area of the brain, often called the limbic system, appears
to be important in mediating some of the more unusual acupuncture
effects. This article considers some of the mechanisms that may be
involved.
- Acupuncture. touch, and the
placebo response
Acupuncture is often accused by critics of being "just a placebo".
However, this begs the question of what a placebo is. Here I consider
the complex role played by touch in manual therapies such as acupuncture
and suggest that this may afford a good way of thinking about the
placebo element in such therapies.
- Tattooing and the origins of
acupuncture
This short article considers a possible explanation of how acupuncture
may have developed.
